Director of Origination

As Channel continues to expand and grow its asset portfolio, the role of Director of Origination (DIO) is more important than ever. You will be responsible for developing new business for Channel which provides innovative funding solutions using established securitisation structures and fund-based methodologies. This will enable Channel to meet its growth and AUM targets, impacting Channel’s financial performance, reputation and long-term success.

Status: Permanent
Working hours: Monday – Friday; 40 hours per week; 8:30am– 5:30pm
Location: Office based; 77 Charlotte Street, London W1T 4PW with some flexibility to work from home several days per week; International travel may also be required
Reporting to: Head of Origination
Salary: O.T.E. c. £150K p.a. – with opportunity to be higher. Comprising of a competitive salary, commission scheme and long-term incentive plan. Subject to Experience level

The opportunity:

This is a senior sales role in the company where you can have significant influence in the development of the business using your knowledge and experience in a corporate lending environment. You will be expected to get stuck in from day one:

Responsibilities of the Director of Origination are as follows:

  • Be responsible for originating new business opportunities, aligned to Channel’s risk appetite, to meet targets for income and funds under management.
  • Build and develop a strong network of intermediaries and advisors who can provide regular sources of introductions and networking opportunities whilst supporting the Channel Group brand and overall origination activities.
  • Support the brand of Channel within the wider market by attending selected industry events and maintaining a professional online presence
  • Agree with the Head of Origination a business development plan that will outline your approach to achieving your personal KPI’s and targets.
  • Develop and execute origination strategy in line with corporate growth objectives.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, product development, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Use diligently the company CRM system, Pipedrive, to maintain a clear record of introducers, prospects and activity management.
  • Provide regular and timely updates, both verbally and/or in writing to the senior team and line manager on the new business pipeline and performance against individual KPI’s.
  • As required, work in conjunction with Marketing in the preparation and distribution of marketing activities and materials to develop and win new business for Channel.
  • Complete the Due Diligence requirements for facilities which will enable written submissions to Permission to Proceed (PTP) Committee and then subsequently Investment Committee (IC).
  • Work in conjunction with Structuring, Risk and Portfolio Management Teams in developing new business proposals, funding structures, operational requirements and loan documentation that will enable the closing of new business transactions.
  • Support and contribute to the development of new lending products as required by senior management.
  • Foster a culture of ethical conduct, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure robust record-keeping and audit trails for all deals and client interactions.
  • To be an Ambassador for Channel and represent the firm externally as required.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, finance accounting or another related field – Important
  • Ideally a minimum of 5 years’ successful experience in a new business origination role – essential
  • Have a developed network of intermediaries that operate within complimentary business areas – essential
  • An understanding of financial markets, economic trends and regulatory requirements – essential
  • Have experience of structuring transactions to meet securitisation requirements and fund structures, in a regulated environment – essential
  • Right to work in the UK – essential

The opportunity:

This is a senior management role in the business where you can have significant influence in the development of the business using your knowledge and experience in a corporate lending environment.   You will be expected to get stuck in from day one:

Responsibilities of the Chief Risk Officer are split as follows:

  1. Policies and Procedures
    • Overall enterprise-wide risk management of credit, market, operational and reputational risks.
    • Developing and implementing risk management strategies and policies to effectively protect Channel.
    • Monitoring and evaluating risk management activities to ensure they are effective and remain “fit for purpose”.   Maintain the 3 Lines of Defence risk management practice across the business and ensure that everyone knows their roles and responsibilities within it.
  1. Governance and Risk Appetite
    • Maintain Channel’s Risk Governance framework, including internal controls and management of operational risk.
    • Work with senior management to articulate and control Channel’s risk appetite for credit, market, operational and reputational risks
    • Ensure all staff are aware of Channel’s risk policies and procedures.   Make these accessible to all staff and provide additional advice and support as necessary.
  1. Technology, Reporting and Communications
    • Leverage technology we have developed known as Magic, which combines Finley Technology to track covenants and termination events and supplemented by Open Banking (Re:Cap), Sikoia (AML KYC) and Neotas (reputational deep dive).
    • Report on risk issues to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors (as required)
  2. Develop and maintain suitable risk dashboards covering all aspects of the activities of Channel.
  3. Communicate as required to other stakeholders including investors, borrowers, rating agencies and other Channel board members.

 

  1. Staffing and Leadership
    • Lead the activities of other members of the Risk Management and related team.   Ensure team members are appropriately trained and supported in their roles.
    • Ensure adequate resourcing of the risk management function, making recommendations as appropriate, to the ExCo regarding staff additions or changes.
    • Apply our proprietary ESG scorecard to monitor risks across the portfolio
  1. Risk Monitoring:
    • Ensure proactive management of post-investment relationships from deal initiation to exit.
    • Understand how to apply ratings methodology to transaction level data to promote monitoring capabilities
    • Consider the ongoing use of enhanced technology and the “Magic” technology stack of Channel to automate and hyperscale the risk management process.
    • Implement risk mitigation strategies to safeguard portfolio performance.
    • Prepare comprehensive portfolio risk reports for presentation to the Ex-Co & Board.
